The Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Group’s leadership in education extends across the globe, originally joined forces by three world famous institutions. Houghton Mifflin, hereafter known as the HM, embraced with a rich history in the publishing industry for more than 170 years. In 1967, HM published its stock in the New York Stock Exchange, having to complete many successful series of exchanges, its stock value sky rocked to the top, at the same time, it has become one of the biggest literature and education publishing company in the world. Riverdeep Interactive Learning Company, hereafter known as Riverdeep, with its products sold to and used by more than 45,000 education institutions in over 120 countries, its educative software crowned itself in the United States! The British Harcourt Education company is the third largest education publication company in the world, used to belong to the Reed Elsevier PLC Group. Currently, numbers of institution from Australia, Central and South America, Africa, Europe and South East Asia are using their products.

Estimated by the International Education Committee, after merging with Riverdeep Interactive Learning Company and Harcourt Education, HMHG has become the largest K12 education group in the world with its market value over 12 billion U.S. dollars.

Riverside Publishing Company是1979年加入HMHG的分支機(jī)構(gòu)，美國現(xiàn)行SAT考試的內(nèi)容及標(biāo)準(zhǔn)就是基于該公司的Iowa Tests of Educational Development而開發(fā)的。目前主要負(fù)責(zé)開發(fā)和精化各種教學(xué)考核和測試，其研究成果被美國教育系統(tǒng)公認(rèn)，并作為很多美國州立公立學(xué)校必備的考核標(biāo)準(zhǔn)，占據(jù)著美國絕大部分私立學(xué)校的市場份額。

College Division主要負(fù)責(zé)HMHG大學(xué)部分出版物的設(shè)計研發(fā)工作。

Trade and Reference Division is the oldest division in HMHG. Established in 1832, the Trade and Reference Division publishes adult, juvenile, and reference books, including 28 Pulitzer Prize winners, 9 National Book Award winners, 11 recipients of Caldecott Medals, and 10 recipients of Newbery Medals. As the official publisher of the Lord of the Ring, their American Heritage Dictionaries becomes the only national recognized dictionary.

School Division is another HMHG division, it publishes resources for teachers, students, and parents in subjects such as science, math, literature reading, language art and social science from pre-K–8.

Great Source Education Group is another division under HMHG, it mainly publishes effective materials for summer school, afterschool, and intervention programs, quality test preparation. Outstanding research-based professional development offerings solidify Great Source’s commitment to helping educators make a difference in classrooms every day.

McDougal Littell purchased in 1994 is another division of HMHG, with its unique heritage in creative design, McDougal Littell publishes an extensive offering of print and technology materials for language arts, mathematics, social studies, world languages, and science for grades 6–12.

Riverdeep Interactive Learning Company previously known as Learning Technology, specializes in developing highly engaging, interactive pre-K–12 solutions that inspire excellence and innovation in education, and raise student achievement in the HMHG.

Riverside Publishing Company joined force with HMHG in 1979, its Iowa Tests of Educational Development was the foundation used by the SAT test. Riverside Publishing Company offers a wide range of highly regarded clinical, state, formative, educational, and group assessment products. Its research results are recognized by the U.S. Education System. They become the standards in many public schools’ test and evaluation systems. It shares a big portion in the private schools as well.

College Division mainly focuses on the design and development of HMHG products used in colleges.

International Division mainly focuses on the publication of HMHG products internationally.

The RISE product position is quite unique in the market as it is a combination of subject-based English Language learning and Houghton Mifflin Learning Technology’s award-winning interactive curriculum-based software. This International Education Program is on the cutting edge of all English learning programs in China.
